Five Interior Designs with Ceiling Wallcoverings to Look up To
Wallcovering isn’t just for the walls, and our clients’ projects prove it. Sometimes, the ceiling, whether barreled, vaulted, coffered, or flat, is the perfect place to add more personality with wallcovering. Using wallcovering on the ceiling can create a moment of surprise and delight and immerse guests in the space more completely. Below, we’ve rounded up five projects that use Astek’s wallcoverings on the ceilings in inventive ways.

801 Fish Denver
Denver may be landlocked, but it doesn’t feel that way at 801 Fish Denver, serving up the freshest fish, oysters, and crustaceans from the coast. 801’s upscale dining experience includes the bar, private dining rooms, and wine from the private wine cellar. Interiors by Shea Design bring in the hues of the sea along with warm woods and light neutrals for a comfortable atmosphere. Blue and white blown-glass light fixtures complement the custom stained-glass window behind the bar, and fish and scale motifs are found throughout. Look up in the private dining room and at the oval bar– a frothing, rolling ocean is waiting to greet you on the ceiling. These images, custom-scaled and printed by Astek for installation on the barrel vault ceilings, are lit from above the soffit for extra drama.

The Chapman
The Chapman offers Old Florida-inspired flavors perfect for date night, special occasions, or brunch with friends. The restaurant and bar is a respite from busy daily life, providing a space to rest, restore, and connect with people you love. Vault Design Group’s interiors are sophisticated and glamorous, with plenty of round booths to encourage conspiratorial conversation (and great photos). The party continues into the restroom, where the Vault team has envisioned a space just as dramatic and glamorous as the rest of the restaurant: black tile and marble, gold fixtures, and fringed pendant lamps ooze drama, while our Chiaroscuro wallcovering wraps the ceiling and onto the walls for an immersive effect. The wallpaper is repeated in the mirror, creating the ultimate mirror selfie-worthy space to touch up before returning to the party.

Pico Taco at Spruce Peak
Part of Spruce Peak mountain resort in Stowe, Vermont, Pico Taco serves up bowls, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and more with fresh, local ingredients. Rose Bernard Studio designed the interiors of Pico Taco to reflect the menu’s ethos– fresh, bright, welcoming, and energizing, fueling guests for a full day of mountain adventures. The main dining room is full of natural light, thanks to virtually floor-to-ceiling windows, and pared-back furniture focuses on the food. On the vaulted ceiling, keep an eye out for a custom mural by Astek’s creative team, filling in the spaces between the exposed beams. Bright, colorful plants and animals bring the vibrance of Mexico to the mountains of Vermont.

Game Room by Thiel Design
Thiel & Team’s design for this game room space is nothing short of magical. A curated palette of navy, dark wood, and gold feels cozy and luxe, perfect for staying holed up on a rainy day playing board games. Astek's Photogram 1 mural makes the ceiling a rich focal point to reflect the luxe royal blue sofa, with uplighting adding extra drama. Hints of metallic gold are mirrored in the light fixtures, reminiscent of 20-sided dice. Don’t miss the cheeky wall sconce– a raven holding the light fixture is the perfect dash of Gothic flavor to add even more personality to the space.

Graduate Richmond
Graduate Richmond offers easy access to Virginia Commonwealth University and the rest of downtown Richmond. The interiors are modern, clean, and bold– a little less “maximalist americana” than some other hotels in the collection, but with enough signature touches to make it feel distinctly Graduate. In the lobby, custom plaid wallcovering by Astek dresses up the ceiling. The pattern mimics the gingham armchairs below it, and the plethora of patterns in the adjacent Brookfield Cafe. Plaid's undeniable coziness helps welcome guests to the hotel and to Richmond.
