Last week, Astek partnered with Habitat for Humanity’s annual Hollywood Build program to build affordable housing for families across Los Angeles. Bringing the entertainment community together, our volunteers worked alongside actors, athletes, entertainment industry executives, community changemakers, and Habitat LA partner homebuyers to make an extraordinary change in these areas.
Filled with bonding, hard work, and dedication, the event spanned two days. Each of our volunteers had their own specific duties that would ultimately come together to aid in the completion of eight homes. Some of our employees’ favorite, most rewarding activities included raising structural framing, painting fence boards, and even learning new build techniques and terminologies! Although most of these were foreign concepts to our team, the sense of satisfaction in knowing that this would someday be someone’s home undoubtedly trumped the learning curve.
This project is currently still in its structural stages, however the wooden frames put together by Astek’s team will soon be a space where a family will laugh, grow, and learn. Leaving with the feeling that we created a future for someone who may not have had the opportunity to do so themselves, is one we know was worth every minute at this event.
