The Making of Eterna Nouveau

When creating something new, we often find inspiration in the past. For Eterna Nouveau, our creative team looked to the timeless elegance of Art Nouveau—the early 20th-century movement defined by flowing botanicals and ornate illustration. Its influence has reappeared throughout history, from the psychedelic posters of the 1960s to the ethereal sets of The Lord of the Rings. Now, Eterna Nouveau reinterprets this storied style through a modern lens, expressed in a series of sophisticated, large-scale murals that showcase Astek’s in-house artistry and printing innovation.

The creative process spanned various mediums and techniques. Some artists used watercolor or oil paints, while others digitally created their compositions with virtual brushes. Through ongoing collaboration, the team unified seven distinct artistic voices into one cohesive collection, tied together by languid lines, exquisite detail, and an immersive sense of scale. Carefully curated colorways further reinforced harmony with a palette of deep jewel tones and light neutrals. These colors were inspired by historical references and refined for modern interiors.

When the first full-scale test prints rolled off our printers, the designs truly came alive. Printed on our Sandstone and Silver Sandstone substrates, the murals revealed stunning depth and texture. To add even more dimension, we applied a spot gloss finish—a distinctly modern technique that caused the florals to shimmer and the linework to glow. After a few final adjustments, Eterna Nouveau was ready to debut: a collection where history and innovation merge, giving new life to a classic art form.
