Wallcoverings in the Workplace

It's summertime, and while you might be taking time away from the office, interior designers are imbuing workspaces with beauty and joy. Our clients use wallcoverings to bring an environment of calm, a sense of place, or welcome playfulness to different workplaces, depending on what that office needs. We’ve rounded up some of our clients’ office designs featuring Astek wallcoverings that make that post-vacay feeling a bit more bearable. Check them out below!

UTLX Chicago HQ

UTLX moved into 181 W. Madison to join their parent company, Marmon Holdings LLC. Whitney Architects set out to create a bright, friendly space to inspire a return to the office. To facilitate in-person collaboration, they added more meeting rooms, flexible work areas, and a focus on open spaces for people to mingle and meet. Natural light and generous lighting throughout the two-floor office illuminates the fairly neutral, pared-back architectural design. Pops of color in the furniture, painted accent walls, and wallcovering bring playful energy. One lounge/lobby area features a wall of our Bows and Arrows pattern by Society of Wonderland. This dynamic pattern is colorful and modern, coordinating with the eclectic furniture in the space. We hope this interior design inspires another 100 years of innovation from this historic company! Charley Co

Designed by Maximalist XD, Charley Co won the 2019 IIDA Rocky Mountain Chapter BEST award in the 12,000 sqft workplace category. Though it has sadly closed, this woman-only coworking space in RiNo was bold, friendly, and empowering, based on the ethos of its founder, Bryn Carter. Maximalist took charge of the brand design as well as the interiors, resulting in a space that is cohesively, unapologetically “Charley” from head to toe. With a royalty-inspired color palette (hues of emerald green, gold, blush, cobalt, and yellow are found throughout) and an unapologetic approach to pattern and styling, the resulting interior is not your average coworking space. Wallcovering was a big part of the immersive effect of the branding. The reception desk and entryway feature a rich custom colorway of our Hana pattern, welcoming visitors and coworkers. Elsewhere, custom patterns, designed by the Maximalist team and printed by Astek, add a cheeky, bold vibe: oversized peaches with metallic accents dress up a meeting room, and gold metallic middle fingers add spice to the salon. Watertown Exploratory Labs (WELL)

Elkus Manfredi Architects transformed the former Western Electric Company building (built in 1931) into a cutting-edge life science research facility. The designers kept the art deco exterior but completely revamped the interior to make it light, bright, and dynamic, connecting it to the outdoors and creating a sense of place. The main atrium is a focal point, connecting different amenities: flexible work lounge, cafe, gym, and conference center, acting as a “town square” for tenants from different companies to come together. Wall graphics (designed by the Elkus Manfredi team and printed by Astek) are based on the light and shadows coming in from the windows and skylights high above. Similar graphics can be found in the North lobby and the conference center, adding a playful, retro touch with their bright colors and bold shapes. (Photos by Interior Design Magazine)
